2025 JHW Scholarship
We are very pleased to announce that we had a record number of applicants this year and had a difficult time choosing a single winner.
We are VERY proud to introduce you to the first place and three runners-up for the JHW Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year!
2025 First Place
Kathryn Byxbee

Though there are too many accomplishments to note here, a very brief bio of Kathryn includes the following. Kathryn Byxbee, is a recent graduate of Greenwich Country Day School in Greenwich, CT, and will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology-NTID this fall to major in Engineering. Known as Katie, she has been a dedicated writer for Hearing Life Magazine since middle school. Katie was co-captain of her Varsity Swim and Water Polo teams and is set to compete in the Junior Olympics this summer for girls' water polo. All of her contributions and achievements were recently recognized as the Outstanding Young Adult by the Hearing Life Association of America. Katie hopes to enter the Masters Program when she finishes her Bachelors Degree.
2025 Runners-up
Abigail Previlon

Abigail "Abby' Previlon was born and raised in Connecticut. This is how Abby describes herself: "For the next 4 years my focus is going to be my college life in which I'm majoring in Diagnostic Medical Sonography at RIT where I will also be playing D3 Volleyball. My aspiration in life is to help people specially the deaf and hard of hearing community, open doors that were close to us so they don’t have to struggle the same struggle as I did and reach their fullest potential.
On side note- by the way yes I also made the sweater that feature in that picture that I am wearing."

Michael Bueso
Michael is from Stamford, CT and attended the American School for the Deaf (ASD) in West Hartford, CT. Michael will be attending the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY where he will major in Illustration Design.
Lori Hylinski

Meet Lori Hylinski. This is how Lori introduced herself: "Hi! My name is Lori Hylinski. I am Deaf! I live in Connecticut. I am married and have one son. Also, I am currently full time mother and college student as Interpreter Training Program. My goal is to become as Certified Deaf Interpreter/ Deaf Interpreter. & will attend to Bachelor degree for communication. I love traveling all over the world !!! My favorite quotes to keep me remind “Dream never stop you & don’t give up til you reach the dream! Obstacles always be there even good or bad paths but YOU DIDNT GIVE UP! Keep it going !”
Lori will be attending Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

Muna Abanoor
Muna is from Roxbury, MA. She graduated from the Horace Mann School for the Deaf in Boston, Massachusetts, in the class of 2023. Muna is an amazing young woman and is a proven leader amongst her peers and within the Deaf community. Muna will be attending Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and majoring in Social Work. We are proud to be a small part in her future success and we wish Muna all the best in all she does! Keep in touch with us, Muna!

Luke Romblad
Luke is from Madison, CT. He graduated from the American School for the Deaf (ASD) in the class of 2022. Luke is going to attend Lincoln Technical Institute in East Windsor, CT and will be trained as a CNC Machinist. We are thrilled to be able to assist Luke to meet his goals and wish him the best!

Andrew Parent
Andrew is from Winsted, CT and attended the American School for the Deaf (ASD) in West Hartford, CT. Andrew will be attending the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY where he will major in Athletic Training. We wish Andrew all the best in his future endeavors and we know he will be a success at NTID and after. Stay warm, Andrew!

Our second Winner of the Joseph H. Weingart Scholarship for 2021-2022 graduated from the EDCO Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Newton North High School in Newton, MA.
She will also be attending the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Rochester, NY and majoring in Psychology.
